Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently placed in the A+ category in the BCCI’s annual contracts.
Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all set to retain their A+ category in the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) annual contracts for the 2025-26 season, according to a report by PTI. The Governing body is scheduled to discuss and revise contracts for the next year in their annual general meeting on December 22.
Kohli and Sharma are currently placed in the A+ category in BCCI’s central contracts alongside pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Players in the A+ category receive the annual salary of INR 7 crore, and the category is reserved for all-format players. Earlier, there were reports that both of them might be demoted to the A category.
Notably, both Kohli and Sharma announced their retirement from test cricket in May this year. As a result, they are only active in ODI cricket. Last year, they pulled the curtains down on their T20I careers after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Last month, Shubman Gill replaced Sharma as the new captain in the 50-over format ahead of the Australia tour. He was also appointed as the vice-captain in T20Is ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 in September. According to reports, the right-handed batter will be promoted to the A+ category by the BCCI in the fresh contracts.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli grab top two spots in ICC ODI rankings

Meanwhile, Rohit and Kohli have tasted immense success with the bat following their return to the national side in October. Recently, they rocked the field with their match-winning knocks in the ODI series against South Africa.
While Sharma hammered two half-centuries in the three-match series, Kohli smacked two centuries and one fifty to win the Player of the Series award. The duo broke multiple batting records in the campaign and currently bag the top two spots in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rankings for ODI batters.
While Sharma is the current No.1 ODI batter, Kohli grabs the second spot. The duo also played a key role in driving the Men in Blue to a 2-1 victory in the ODI series against the Proteas.
