Yashasvi Jaiswal is yet to make his ODI debut.
India announced their 15-member squad for the home ODI series and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on January 18, Saturday.
The runners-up of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, India, have been placed in Group A of the 2025 edition alongside defending champions Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
India have retained their core squad from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 while adding exciting new talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal to the mix.
Having made his debut in T20I and test cricket in 2023, the young Indian opener has been included in the ODI squad for the first time. He will join Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as opening options in the team.
Gill’s appointment as vice-captain almost confirms his role as the first-choice opener alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. However, India will be keen to try out Jaiswal in the three-match ODI series against England.
Jaiswal was in fantastic form in 2024, scoring impressive double centuries against England in the home test series in January and February. He continued his stellar run by scoring 391 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia.

Speaking to the media after India’s squad announcement for the Champions Trophy 2025, Indian captain Rohit Sharma highlighted that Jaiswal’s excellent form across formats made him a deserving selection.
He said, “We picked Jaiswal on the basis of what he has shown in the last few months despite not playing ODI cricket. He has been picked on potential and sometimes you have to do that.“
