Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad came up with a heart-warming gesture for his teammate Prithvi Shaw after Ranji Trophy 2025-26 game against Chandigarh. After taking his side to victory, Gaikwad shared his Player of the Match award with Shaw.
Gaikwad hammered a patient knock of 116 runs in the first innings to help Maharashtra post a powerful total on the board and it came at a time when his side was struggling at 83/4. In the second innings too, he looked in great touch, scoring unbeaten 36 to help his team win by a huge margin of 144 runs. However, it was Shaw’s spectacular double ton (222) in the second innings that turned the game in Maharashtra’s favour.
Shaw reached his double century off just 141 deliveries, scripting the record for the third fastest double ton in the Ranji Trophy history. Thanks to his impeccable knock, Shaw helped Maharashtra win their first game of the season.

When Gaikwad was adjudged Player of the Match, he made a heartfelt gesture by calling Shaw to share the award. The video of the moment was posted by the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) on their official account on X (formerly Twitter) and went viral among fans who appreciated Gaikwad’s gesture for his teammate.
With his double ton, Shaw has made a powerful comeback in Ranji Trophy 2025-26, having been bowled out for a duck in the first innings against Kerala in their tournament opener. However, he scored a half-century in the second innings against Kerala and followed it up with a blistering ton.
Notably, Shaw commenced a fresh chapter in his domestic career by joining Maharashtra ahead of the 2025-26 season. Earlier this year, he parted ways with his former team Mumbai.
