Ruturaj Gaikwad recently was part of India A squad in unofficial test series against England Lions.
Indian top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has signed a deal with Yorkshire County Club to play in England’s domestic cricket in the upcoming season. The right-handed batsman will commence his stint with Yorkshire in England’s county cricket in July 2025 till the end of the season.
The 28-year-old is expected to play five matches for the team in the County Championship, starting with the first encounter against Surrey next month. He will later feature in the One-Day Cup too. Gaikwad was part of India A squad during the recently-concluded unofficial test series against England Lions.
India A and England Lions played two unofficial test matches from May 30 to June 9. Both the games ended in a draw. Gaikwad was not part of the playing XI in both encounters. So far, the right-handed batsman has played six ODIs and 23 T20Is for the Indian Cricket Team.
Excited to be joining up with Yorkshire: Ruturaj Gaikwad
After signing a deal with the county team, Gaikwad said he was excited to play the English domestic season and called Yorkshire the biggest club in England. He also added that it is a great opportunity to represent the club in County Championship and the One-Day Cup tournaments.
“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season,” Gaikwad said. “It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire,” he was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
“I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Gaikwad last played in April during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He was the skipper of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and led the side in the first five matches. However, he was later ruled out of the entire season due to an elbow injury. His team, under MS Dhoni’s leadership, finished in the last spot in the points table in IPL 2025.
