The ICC WTC 2023-25 final, SA vs AUS, got underway on Wednesday.
South Africa Cricket Team and the Australia Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The game commenced on Wednesday (11th July), and the opening day witnessed an enthralling display with the ball from both sides. As many as 14 wickets fell on day one, which speaks about the kind of challenge it was for batters.
South Africa won the toss and opted to field first in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. They had a terrific outing with the ball as Kagiso Rabada oozed his class with the ball. The premier pacer came up with a brilliant fifer and went past Allan Donald to become the fourth-highest wicket-taker for the Proteas in the longest format of the game, with 332 wickets so far.
Lanky pacer Marco Jansen supported him well as he bagged a three-wicket haul. Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj also bagged one scalp each. Based on their brilliant effort with the bat, they wrapped up the Australian innings for just 212 runs. For the Pat Cummins-led side, Beau Webster (73) and Steve Smith (66) slammed a half-centuries.
In the second innings of the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, South Africa also had a terrible outing with the bat. Aiden Markram was back in the hut in the first over, and after that, Ryan Rickelton (16), Wiaan Mulder (6) and Tristan Stubbs (2) fell too, leaving the Proteas at 30 for four.
At stumps on day one, skipper Temba Bavuma (3*) and David Bedingham (8*) remained unbeaten as South Africa ended with 43/4. For Australia, Mitchell Starc picked two wickets while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood also bagged one scalp each.
With the way things panned out on day one of the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, it promises to be an enthralling day two. South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma will hold the key for his team, while Australia, on the other hand, would want to take early wickets and bag a first-innings lead.
