SA vs AUS semi-final 2 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is being played in Kolkata.

South Africa are taking on Australia in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16, 2023. This is the third time these two sides are meeting in the semi-final in the tournament’s history.

However, the match is under the clouds as heavy rain is expected to hinder the encounter in Kolkata due to a cyclone. Rain could be a problem, as the MET department predicts heavy rain in Kolkata on Thursday and Friday. Rain has been falling in the city for the past few days. The meteorological service predicted light rain on Thursday, with wet weather and repeated spells of rain on Reserve Day on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department forecasted “light rain with thunder likely” on Thursday and Friday.

The highest temperature is expected to be approximately 29 degrees Celsius when the South African and Australian captains announce the match toss at 1.30 pm IST on Thursday. The humidity will be at 69%, with 100% cloud coverage and at least a 25% chance of rain.

The weather is predicted to deteriorate in the evening, when the temperature will drop to around 24 degrees and the humidity will rise to around 84%, with 100% cloud cover over the ground and a 25% probability of rain.

On Friday, there is at least a 75% probability of rain in Kolkata, with 14.8mm of rain anticipated in the city.

Who will qualify for final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 if reserve day gets washed out?

Though the semi-final match has a reserve day on Friday, as per the MET department, approximately 14.8mm of rain is predicted in the city. This means rain could play a huge part in the outcome of this match.

According to the ICC Cricket World Cup Rules and Regulations, if the semi-final is completely rained out, the team with the highest place in the group stage points table, will advance to the final. South Africa and Australia both finished with 14 points under their name in the group stage. But with a better NRR, South Africa are placed at 2nd spot, while Australia are placed 3rd. In the second semi-final, South Africa hold the advantage against Australia.

If the Kolkata semi-final is rained out, South Africa will face India in the final of the Cricket World Cup 2023 on November 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
