The SA vs SL test series will start on November 27.
South Africa have announced their 14-man squad for the upcoming two-match test series against Sri Lanka, starting on November 27 in Durban.
This series holds utmost importance for the Proteas as they chase their maiden ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final. They need to win all four of their remaining home tests—two against Sri Lanka and two against Pakistan—to cement their spot in the final. They could still make it while not winning all four tests but that would based on results elsewhere.
On the positive side, South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma, has been declared fit after recovering from an elbow injury while Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen also return to the test setup after 11 months of break.
Head Coach Shukri Conrad’s shares his views on the squad
South Africa’s test coach Shukri noted the importance of picking the strongest squad to stay competitive in the WTC. He said, “We’ve picked the strongest possible side to ensure we stay competitive and keep our hopes alive for a place in the World Test Championship final.”
Shukri also emphasized that Bavuma’s return will be valuable for the Proteas. He continued, “It’s great to have Temba back leading the side after his recovery. His leadership and skill are invaluable to the team. I’d also like to thank Aiden for stepping up and captaining the side so successfully during the Bangladesh series.“

Pace duo Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee have returned to the test squad after being on a conditional break from the longest format since the start of the year.
Bavuma’s return is a significant boost for the team after he missed the series against Bangladesh. Dane Piedt has been left out, while Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy retain their spots as the spin options.
