2nd season of SA20 will begin on 10th January and the final will be played on 10th February.

The first edition of the SA20 saw massive success among the global crowd, especially Indians. Cricket South Africa have announced the schedule for the second season of the tournament. SA20’s 2nd season will begin on January 10 with the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape taking on the Johannesburg Super Kings at St. George’s Park. In a one-month-long tournament in the shortest format, T20, the SA20 Final will be played on February 10. The venue for the final game is yet to be decided. SA20 has seen a massive boost in its Indian audience due to the involvement of six Indian Premier League franchises.

SA20’s second season schedule announced

SA20 will see a little change in their schedule. To attract more crowds to the stadium, Cricket South Africa have decided to host the doubleheaders only on Saturday. The pre-season auction of the tournament will be conducted next month on September 27th, where teams will pick the best of their squad. The league follows the IPL round-robin league structure, with each team taking on each other twice, once at home and once away. In another change from last season, the Top four teams will be playing in the playoffs round. Playoffs will be played on February 6th, 7th, and 8th.

SA20 is a six-team franchise, and all of them have an Indian Premier League connection. Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants have sister franchises in the league. Super Kings own Johannesburg, Mumbai Indians own MI Cape Town, Sunrisers own Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Capitals own Pretoria Capitals, Royals own Paarl Royals, and Super Giants own Durban Super Giants in the league. Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the defending champions of the tournament.

Talking about the second season’s schedule, SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith said, “We have jam-packed the opening week of matches, which will captivate fans around the country. We have been intentional in giving families, friends, and our fans an opportunity to watch as many matches as possible, with mid-week fixtures starting at 5:30 PM and weekends providing prime summer evening viewing. It was fantastic to see all the fan support last year.”
