Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar played his last international match at the Wankhede Stadium in 2013.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s life-sized statue has been unveiled at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The statue was unveiled just a day before India’s clash against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Team India will be playing their 7th league game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka and revisiting the memories of India’s glorious night of 2nd April 2011. Team India defeated Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup 2011 final at this stadium.

Sachin Tendulkar was present at the Wankhede Stadium along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, Former Mumbai chief minister and BCCI president Sharad Pawar to commemorate the ceremony. Sachin was also accompanying his family as his wife Anjali Tendulkar and daughter Sara Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium.

Sachin's favourite lofted straight drive

The statue has been installed at the Sachin Tendulkar stand inside Wankhede Stadium to celebrate the 50 years of Sachin’s life. Sachin Tendulkar turned 50 earlier this year in April. Sachin’s life-sized statue will depict him playing his favourite lofted straight drive. He has scored so many runs at the international level with this shot. He has a lot of fans of himself who will still pay to watch his straight drives.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has been one of the most successful grounds in Sachin Tendulkar’s career. He ended his long wait of winning the World Cup at this same ground in 2011 against Sri Lanka. He also played his last international game at Wankhede Stadium against West Indies to say goodbye to his 24 years long international cricket. Sachin had played 664 international games from 1989 to 2013.
