Saeed Ajmal heaps praise on Virat Kohli's consistency
Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal believes Virat Kohli is a ‘World-Class player’.
Former Pakistan cricketer Saeed Ajmal heaped praise on the dynamic Indian batsman, Virat Kohli. Ajmal acknowledged Kohli’s unwaveringly strong performances, even during times when he wasn’t in top form. It’s worth mentioning that Kohli is preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to commence on August 30 and will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Leading up to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) event, Saeed Ajmal, former off-spinner for Pakistan, spoke highly of Kohli in a recent interview. He commended Kohli for consistently delivering strong performances, even when he was going through a less productive period. Additionally, Ajmal drew a parallel between Kohli and the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar. He noted that both players have a deep understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and they continually adapt their playing style based on the specific conditions of the game.
“He (Virat Kohli) is a world-class player. Like every player, he also underwent a lean patch. A lot was said then, but a good batter cannot always score a century in every outing. Anyways, he, along with Sachin (Tendulkar), is the leading run-scorer, which testifies to their skills and how good they are. Like Sachin, he has performed consistently for the team. He knows his strengths and weaknesses, and he plays accordingly,” Ajmal told The New Indian Express.
‘He and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam have a lot of similarities’ says Saeed Ajmal
Virat Kohli has developed into one of the most impressive batters of our time, and similarly, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam has also excelled in batting across all three formats. Drawing a comparison, Saeed Ajmal pointed out similarities between Kohli and Azam. He mentioned that both players start their innings cautiously and then switch to a more aggressive mode to rack up significant scores.
“He and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam have a lot of similarities. They start cautiously but accelerate at the right time in the shortest format. They reach fifty in no time. These are signs of a great player. They are effortless and can play match-winning knocks in any situation,” Ajmal concluded.
The Indian team are set to begin their journey in the Asia Cup against their longtime rivals, Pakistan. This clash will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on September 2nd.
