"I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup,” says Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma had scored 648 runs in the 2019 World Cup with a record five centuries.
India captain Rohit Sharma has revealed that he wants to get into the same phase of mind that he had during the 2019 World Cup, where he was the highest run-getter with 648 runs to his name.
While the Indian skipper sets out on a difficult trip to bring home the nation’s first ICC trophy in ten years, Rohit Sharma is aware of the enormous pressure that a home World Cup entails. However, he wants to shield himself from the outside talk.
“For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or not negatively. I want to shut out everything,” Rohit told PTI before joining the Asia Cup camp in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma will captain Indian team in the upcoming World Cup 2023, which begins on October 5 with India as the sole host for the very first time. When India last hosted the World Cup, the MS Dhoni-led side the lifted the World Cup and made India two-time world champions in ODI format.
“I was in great frame of mind and prepared really well for 2019 World Cup”- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma was the star of the 2019 World Cup with the bat when he hammered 648 runs and still holds the record of five centuries in single edition, breaking Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four tons in the 2015 World Cup.
Rohit has scored the same no of tons as Sachin Tendulkar in World Cup. Both of them have scored 6 each and wants himself to be in the same mood and prep that he was in the 2019 World Cup.
“I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup. I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape and had a good mindset. I want to bring that back, and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what the right things were that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” Rohit added.
“The focus will be on how I can achieve my goals in the next two months, for me and my team. A person can’t change in a period of one or two months,” he further said.
India will play Australia in their World Cup opener on October 8 in Chennai.
