Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has named his India squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Indian selectors will meet on 5th September to decide on the final 15 members for the World Cup 2023. Right after India’s league matches in Asia Cup get over, India’s final 15 squad for World Cup will be out. Before the announcement, a lot of discussions are going on in the media and among the former players.

Former Indian all-rounder and batting coach Sanjay Bangar has also predicted his 15-member World Cup squad and in one of the most surprising inclusions, Bangar has given Arshdeep Singh green signal for the World Cup and dropped India’s leading wicket-taker in the 50-overs format since 2019 World Cup, Shardul Thakur.

Former Indian all-rounder Bangar said that he is focusing on the better combination of the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and said, “For the World Cup, the way I have chosen my squad is focused on combinations. The combination will be as follows. 5 specialist batters, 2 wicket-keeper batters, 2 spin bowling all-rounders, one pace-bowling all-rounder, one specialist spinner, and 4 specialist pace bowlers.” Bangar has not picked Yuzvendra Chahal in his 15-member squad for the World Cup and went in with just one specialist spin bowler Kuldeep Yadav.

Bangar’s surprise inclusion

Sanjay Bangar has given preference to the two left-arm spin bowling all-rounders over a specialist leg-spinner or an off-spinner. Bangar said, “The two spin bowling all-rounders, both I have chosen from the left arm category, would be Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.” Explaining his combination Bangar added, “The pace bowling all-rounder would be Hardik Pandya. One specialist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. And the four pacers would be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh.”

Shardul Thakur is India’s leading wicket-taker in the 50-overs format in the last 4 years. Thakur has played 38 ODI games for India since the 2019 World Cup in England and picked up 54 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh is only looked in as a T20I bowler for team India. Arshdeep Singh will be taking part in the Asian games for India and has played only 3 ODI games for India so far. Arshdeep Singh is yet to pick up a wicket in this format.
