Sanjay Manjrekar has made an interesting comment on “selfless” Indian cricketers.
India’s aggressive batting prowess was on full display in their dominant seven-wicket victory over England in the opening match of the five-match T20I series in Kolkata.
Having restricted England to 132 runs in the first innings, India started their innings in a blistering manner. While captain Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson departed without causing significant damage, Abhishek Sharma starred with 79 runs off 34 balls in an innings that included five fours and eight sixes.
The left-handed batsman came to the game under scrutiny, having scored less than 20 runs in eight of his previous 12 T20I innings.
India have emerged as one of the most dynamic teams in the shortest format, having registered scores of 297 against Bangladesh and 283 against South Africa in 2024.
A period of transition began for the Indian team following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after victory at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Barbados.
After this generational shift, the new-look Indian side has emerged as an even stronger unit and is now considered a serious contender for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has recently shared his views on the team’s playing style.

Reacting to India’s dominant seven-wicket victory over England in the first T20I, Sanjay Manjrekar took to Twitter to praise the new generation of Indian players. He is impressed by the lack of conservativism of the young batsmen when nearing their fifty.
Sanjay wrote, “Loving this from New India! No fear cricket. No fascination for individual 50s etc.Selfless cricketer always a dangerous cricketer in T20s.“
The second T20I of the series will be played on Saturday in Chennai.
