Rajasthan Royals (RR) were one of the busiest franchises at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The 2008 IPL winners added several key players to their squad including Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and English speedster Jofra Archer.

RR entered the two-day event having retained most of its core players – Sanju Samson (Rs. 18 crores), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs. 18 crores), Riyan Parag (Rs. 14 crores), Dhruv Jurel (Rs. 14 crores), Shimron Hetmyer (Rs. 11 crores), and Sandeep Sharma (Rs. 4 crores).

With just three months to go until the start of the IPL 2025 season, the franchise has two options for the wicket-keeping role – Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel. While Samson has emerged as India’s first-choice keeper in T20I cricket, Jurel has started his international career as a test wicket-keeper.

Sanju Samson reveals who will keep wicket for RR in IPL 2025

Ahead of the upcoming season of the IPL, RR captain Sanju Samson has now revealed that he is set to share wicket-keeping duties with Dhruv Jurel in the tournament.

Speaking on Ab de Villiers’ YouTube channel, Samson said, “I have not said this on air but we feel where Dhruv Jurel is at this point of his career as a test wicket-keeper, he needs to wear the gloves in the IPL. That was a discussion. I think we will be sharing gloves.

The 30-year-old Indian batter acknowledged that captaining the team while fielding would be a challenging task and mentioned that he has already discussed this decision with Jurel.

Samson concluded, “I have never captained as a fielder. That might be challenging. I have told him ‘Dhruv, I understand where you are coming from and I think as a leader of the team, you should also keep for a few games. We will see how to play around with that but nothing should come before the team. The team should come first and the individual must be given importance.
