Sarfaraz Khan was picked by CSK for INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction.

Indian Cricket Team batter Sarfaraz Khan will be representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He will start a new journey in the franchise T20 tournament, which will start in the last week of March.

Sarfaraz was bought by the Men-in-Yellow for INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction. He was one of the wicket-keeper batters that CSK inducted into their squad as he joined his new team at his base price.

Last month, the right-handed batsman impressed with his performance for Mumbai in domestic cricket. He scored three half-centuries and one century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025). Later, he also impressed with his brilliant batting shows in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26.

Currently, Sarfaraz is playing for Mumbai in the second leg of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 tournament. In the recent clash against Hyderabad on January 22, he hammered a marvellous double century, hitting a 227-run knock to take Mumbai to victory by a huge margin of nine wickets.

Unfortunately, the Mumbai batter sustained an injury in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26 game against Delhi. According to a report by journalist Gaurav Gupta of The Times of India (TOI), the wicket-keeper batter has sustained an hamstring injury, due to which he did not participate in the match on January 31.

The right-handed batter is part of Mumbai’s playing XI in the ongoing clash against Delhi in Mumbai’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex). However, he didn’t take the field for the entire day 3 of the match.

The 28-year-old has done a wonderful job in the Ranji Trophy so far, smacking 429 runs in nine innings (7 matches) at an average of 53.62. He has slammed one century and one half-century.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz will be a backup wicket-keeper batter for CSK in IPL 2026. They have also inducted Sanju Samson into their squad with a trade deal with the Rajasthan Royals (RR). They have inducted Samson with an aim to have a successor for MS Dhoni in future, but the former is also likely to play a crucial role in IPL 2026.

CSK had a dismal show last season, where they failed to reach the playoffs for the second time in a row. With just four wins and 10 defeats out of 14 games, they were the worst performers in the season and ended in the last spot in the points table. After Gaikwad’s absence due to an elbow injury after five matches, MS Dhoni captained the side last season.
