Sarfaraz Khan made his India debut earlier this year in the home test series against England.

Despite having an impressive debut test series, there is no certainity about the selection of Sarfaraz Khan for the upcoming IND vs BAN test series next month. But the Mumbai batsman is not keeping any expecatations, something which, he says, he’s been practising for the past few years.

With his batting exploits for multiple years in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz broke the door down on the selectors and got into the Indian squad earlier this year for the test series against England.

With Virat Kohli unavailable, KL Rahul injured and Rajat Patidar failing to grab his chances, India handed Sarfaraz his test debut and the right-hander instantly showed his mettle.

He smashed 62 and 68* in his debut test and a test later hit another half-century, finishing the series with 200 runs in five innings at an average of 50 and three half-centuries. In his debut series, he showed that he is built for test cricket and could have a long career in the format.

I’m not looking at the Bangladesh series: Sarfaraz Khan

Now for the Bangladesh series, Kohli and Rahul will return and Sarfaraz could find himself on the bench. The 26-year-old, though, isn’t thinking about selection in the XI for the Bangladesh tests.

“I’m not looking at the Bangladesh series. But I’ve to follow the process and be ready. This (playing matches) is very important for me. I’ve not had this level of practice in Mumbai because of the rains. You are just facing a bowling machine, side-arm throwers or sometimes bowlers in indoor facilities. But I don’t like batting indoors because the ball comes nicely onto the bat. It is not the case on turf because it will challenge you a lot. And you can only improve by practising hard,” Sarfaraz told The Indian Express.

“I have zero expectations. But I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises. That is what I’ve been doing all along and I don’t see any reason to change that.”
