Scotland announce 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier in Zimbabwe
Scotland will participate along with the likes of Sri Lanka and West Indies in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier is set to begin on 18th June in Zimbabwe. Scotland have picked their 15-member squad for the tournament. Scotland have almost retained their squad for ICC World Cricket League Division 2. Scotland won the tournament and played dominating cricket throughout the Division 2 tournament. Scotland have been part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 3 times. They have taken part in 1999, 07, and 2015. Scotland will have to fight against top teams in Zimbabwe in qualifiers and try to make their 4th appearance in the World Cup.
Richie Berrington to lead Scotland
All-rounder Richie Berrington will lead the Scotland squad in the World Cup 2023 qualifier. Matthew Cross, Alasdair Evans, George Munsey, Chris Greaves, and Michael Leask are the experienced guys with Safyan Sharif, Hamza Tariq and Chris Sole in the 15-member squad. Kyle Coetzer has retired and Adrian Neill will be replacing him in the squad. Alasdair Evans has made his comeback in the team after a while and he is set to play an ODI after almost 2 years.
Talking about the squad, Scotland’s interim head coach Doug Watson said, “I think there is a good mixture in this squad of youth and experienced players who have been around for a while. The likes of Richie and George as well as some exciting young talent in Jack Jarvis and Chris Mcbride”. He further added, “It’s obviously a wonderful opportunity coming up in Zimbabwe, and the guys that we have selected are all really excited, and fizzing to go”.
Sri Lanka and West Indies to play in qualifiers
Along with Scotland, West Indies have also announced their squad for World Cup 2023 qualifier. The tournament is set to begin on the 18th of June. 10 teams will take on each other for two remaining places in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Sri Lanka and West Indies have failed to directly qualify for the World Cup and now they will have to fight in Zimbabwe.
