Senuran Muthusamy scored a century in the first innings of the second IND vs SA test.

Day 2 of the second test between Indian Cricket Team and South Africa Cricket Team at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati took place on Sunday, November 23. In the absence of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant is captaining India in the must-win encounter as the hosts are already 1-0 down in the series.

South Africa all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy stole the spotlight on day 2, smacking his maiden test century in the match. The 31-year-old hit his half-century in the first session and made sure that he converts his start into a big one, going on to reach the three-digit mark in the second session off 192 deliveries.

Smacking 109 runs off 206 deliveries, he propelled South Africa to a mammoth total of 489/10 in the first innings. He built a partnership of 97 runs with Marco Jansen (93) for the eighth wicket, with the latter scoring a half-century.

Across two days of the match, captain Pant has been quite chirpy behind the stumps, giving instructions to his bowlers and encouraging his fielders. He also has been spot on with few of his plans but few things have backfired for him as well. One such moment happened with Muthusamy, when Pant underestimated him in Washington Sundar’s over.

On the last ball of the 124th over of South Africa’s batting, Muthusamy was batting watchfully against Sundar as only one run had come in the over till the last ball. Ahead of the final ball, Pant shouted, “Marne se isko” [Let him hit].

The Proteas all-rounder replied with a huge six at long on as Pant’s tactics completely failed against him. The video of the moment went viral on the micro-blogging website X (formerly Twitter) among Indian cricket fans. Have a look at the video below.

Notably, Pant used a similar tactic against opposition captain Temba Bavuma on day 1, urging his players to allow him to hit big shots. The plan worked as Bavuma was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Ravindra Jadeja, while attempting to hit a lofted shot. However, it did not work out against Muthusamy.

Meanwhile, finishing with 489/10 in the first innings, South Africa have gained a dominating position in the clash. At the stumps of day 2, India were at 9/0 on the board with Yashasvi Jaiswal (7*) and KL Rahul (2*) on strike, trailing by 480 runs. South Africa lead the two-match series 1-0.
