Shaheen Afridi took two wickets against South Africa in Karachi.

On Wednesday, February 12, Pakistan made history by recording their highest successful run-chase in ODI cricket against South Africa in Karachi the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2025.

Chasing a challenging target of 353 runs, captain Mohammad Rizwan (122*) and Salman Ali Agha (134) struck centuries to guide the hosts to a comfortable six-wicket win.

The victory secured Pakistan’s place in the Tri-Series final, where they will face New Zealand in Karachi on February 14.

Despite Pakistan’s historic win, the match has headlines for off-field incidents in the first innings. The ICC has now taken disciplinary action against three Pakistan players.

Shaheen Afridi and two Pakistan players fined and handed demerit point by ICC for code of conduct breach against South Africa

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam have been fined and handed a demerit point each for separate Level 1 breaches of the ICC’s Code of Conduct.

The ICC took action following an incident in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings, where Afridi stepped into the path of batter Matthew Breetzke as he attempted for a run. This led to physical contact and a heated exchange between the two players, as stated by the ICC.

Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee for breaching Article 2.12 of the code of conduct, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact” with a player or others during a game.

Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam were fined 10% of their match fees for celebrating too closely to batter Temba Bavuma after his run-out in the 29th over. Fortunately for Pakistan, none of the three players had any prior demerit points.

Pakistan have been placed in Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 alongside arch-rivals India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. They will begin their campaign against the Kiwis on February 19 in Karachi.
