West Indies cricketer Shai Hope credited former Indian skipper MS Dhoni for his tips.
West Indies cricket team emerged victorious in the first ODI against England, marking a spectacular start to the series. However, the victory goes beyond the boundaries of the pitch, as West Indies skipper Shai Hope revealed that part of their success should be credited to a valuable conversation with former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni.
West Indies chased down a target of 326 against England in the first ODI at North Sound in Antigua to register their second highest successful chase in ODIs. This victory came from a point when West Indies needed 100 runs to win in the last nine overs and chased down the target with seven balls remaining.
Hope’s revelation comes as a testament to the enduring impact of mentorship and the cross-cultural exchange of cricket. MS Dhoni, known for his captaincy and finishing skills, has often been a source of inspiration for emerging talents worldwide. He has been seen in IPL giving valuable insights to other players which can help them in their game.
Shai Hope credits Dhoni
In the post match presentation, West Indies skipper gracefully thanked the former Indian cricketer for inspiring him for taking the game deep and finishing it in ODI format. Shai Hope shared, “A very, very famous person, MS Dhoni – we had a chat a while ago, and he was saying, ‘You always have a lot more time than you think. That is one thing that has stuck with me throughout the years I have been playing ODI cricket,” Hope’s acknowledgment of Dhoni’s influence highlights the camaraderie and mutual respect that transcend national boundaries in the world of cricket.
This advice from the cricketing maestro has left a lasting impact on Hope’s perspective in ODI cricket. Dhoni emphasized on the importance of composure, patience, and a measured approach, traits that have become guiding principles for Hope.
West Indies will play two more ODI’s against England and then will go on to play a 5 match T20I series which will begin from 13th December. West Indies are 1-0 up in the ODI series and would want to register another victory to clinch the series. Hope top-scored for West Indies 109* runs and was also awarded “Man of the match.”
