Shakib Al Hasan is currently playing the first test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been accused of the murder of a garment worker during the protests in the country.

Shakib is currently taking part in the test series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

A recent report in Cricbuzz has revealed that the all-rounder is among 156 people alleged in the murder of Mohammad Rubel, who was a garment worker, in Dhaka’s Adabor area during the protests called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

Shakib Al Hasan was an MP for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party

Mohammad Rubel reportedly died on August 7 after being hit by a bullet on August 5. Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam, filed a case with the Adabor police station on August 22.

In the FIR lodged, 154 local Awami League leaders and activists were accused of the killing of Rubel, and that list includes Shakib and the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Further, another 400-500 unnamed people were also accused in the case. As per the chargesheet, Shakib is accused no.28 in the FIR.

Rubel had joined the protests of the Student Movement against discrimination demanding quota reforms in government jobs.

The report added, “Following orders from Hasina and the other accused, unidentified people attacked the protesting students by firing against them. During this incident, two bullets hit Rubel on his chest, thereby causing grave injuries to which he eventually succumbed.”

Shakib Al Hasan was an MP from Magura-2 constituency under the Awami League party. He hasn’t returned to Bangladesh since the Awami League party leaders including Sheikh Hasina fled the country. Shakib didn’t practice in Bangladesh for the ongoing test series against Pakistan.
