Shakib Al Hasan is currently playing the test series in Pakistan.

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has signed up with Surrey to play one County Championship game between the test series against Pakistan and India.

Shakib is currently in Rawalpindi, featuring in the test series against Pakistan. His bowling on day five in the first test in Rawalpindi proved to be crucial in Bangladesh’s victory.

After the ongoing series, he will not return to Bangladesh and will fly to England for one County fixture against Somerset in Taunton, starting on September 9. After that match, Shakib will fly to Chennai for the first test against India, beginning on September 19. India will host Bangladesh for two tests and three T20Is.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for one County match.

Shakib Al Hasan hasn’t been in Bangladesh for over a month

Shakib Al Hasan is among the 147 people who have been named in the FIR of a murder case in Dhaka. The murder took place in August during the anti-government protests by students in the country.

At that time Shakib was playing in the Global T20 Canada competition. He didn’t return home and flew to Pakistan to link up with the rest of the squad.

The BCB has said that Shakib can continue playing for Bangladesh until he’s proven guilty.

The new BCB chief Faruque Ahmed told the Daily Star on Tuesday, “It’s an FIR (first information report), there are a lot of legal procedures left to prove someone guilty following the filing of FIR. At this moment there is no bar on Shakib to continue playing. We have responded to the legal notice served to us and we have said the same thing (no bar on Shakib playing in the UK) there too.”

Bangladesh’s Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs adviser, Asif Nazrul, said, “Filing a case does not mean an arrest. I believe our Ministry of Home Affairs will take steps to ensure that no one becomes overly enthusiastic about making an arrest. I hope Shakib will not be arrested. As far as I know, our police force has been given certain instructions.”
