ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan doubtful for India clash in Pune
Shakib Al Hasan did a magnificent job with both bat and ball against New Zealand in Chennai.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 action is set to move to Maharashtra in the next few days, when hosts India will take on Bangladesh in a league encounter. Pune’s MCA stadium will be hosting the clash between India and Bangladesh. In a major setback to Bangladesh team before their big clash against India, Shakib Al Hasan sustained an injury in his quad. Shakib Al Hasan was struggling against New Zealand in Chennai as well.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is doubtful for the league game against India as he sustained a slight tear on his left quad. Shakib Al Hasan was found struggling against New Zealand in Chennai and had few breaks in between his 96-runs partnership with wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim. Right after the game, Shakib was taken to the hospital for scans, and reports suggest a few days of rest for the one all-rounder.
Shakib has a tear on his quad
A BCB official was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying, “I am not sure whether he is available for the next game or not, but there is certainly some doubt since he has sustained a slight tear.” It is still undisclosed what kind of tear he has. Bangladesh team management are still hopeful of making Shakib ready for the game, but with the kind of injury he has, it looks doubtful that Shakib will be leading his side against India at MCA Stadium in Pune.
In case Bangladesh skipper misses India game, Najmul Hossain Shanto will be leading Bangladesh side. Shakib had a great outing against New Zealand, and he looked to be getting back to his form with the bat. Shakib picked up a wicket against New Zealand and scored 40 runs. His partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim helped Bangladesh score 245 runs against New Zealand in difficult batting conditions at Chepauk.
Bangladesh have lost their second and third games of the ongoing tournament against England and New Zealand respectively. They are currently placed in 6th place in the points table with 2 points. They defeated Afghanistan in their opening game at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. They will now take on India in their next encounter, scheduled for October 19th on Thursday. Bangladesh have arrived in Pune and have began their preparations. India are currently playing against Pakistan in Ahmedabad.
