Shakib Al Hasan overtakes Daniel Vettori to become highest wicket-taker as left-arm spinner in international cricket

Shakib Al Hasan has played 444 matches across all three formats for the Bangladesh cricket team.

During Bangladesh’s historic win over Pakistan in the first of two-match test series, senior all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan achieved a historic personal milestone. Shakib overtook former New Zealand bowler Daniel Vettori to become highest wicket-taker among left-arm spinners in international cricket.

The 37-year-old Shakib took four wickets (one in the first innings and three in the second innings) in the first test match against Pakistan.

In 444 matches across all three formats, Bangladesh’s veteran left-arm spinner Shakib has taken 707 wickets till now at an economy of 3.91. Shakib shattered the record held by legendary Daniel Vettori, who took 705 scalps in 442 matches across all three formats. Shakib is also the only left-arm spinner to take 700 or more wickets in international cricket after Vettori.

The 37-year-old Shakib has represented Bangladesh in 68 tests, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20Is till now. The left-arm spinner has bagged 241 scalps in tests, 317 wickets in ODIs, and 149 wickets in T20Is till now.
