ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Shakib Al Hasan undergoes net session ahead of IND vs BAN clash in Pune
Shakib Al Hasan didn't complain about any pain during his extensive batting session.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is back on the field and has started his preparation for the next game. Shakib Al Hasan went through a rigorous net session ahead of Bangladesh's big clash against hosts India at MCA Stadium in Pune. Bangladesh will be taking on the in-form Indian team on Thursday in their 4th league game. Shakib was initially doubtful for the clash against India due to a quad tear.
Bangladesh team had extensive preparation on Tuesday for their next game and captain Shakib Al Hasan also made his comeback in the net session. Shakib batted for about 45 minutes in the nets extensively. He didn’t complain about any fatigue or strain. Shakib had a problem in his quad during their clash against New Zealand at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Shakib had trouble while batting in the extensive heat as well as in finishing up 10 overs.
Shakib sustained 'Quad tear'
Shakib immediately went for scans after the Chennai league game and a ‘quad tear’ was suspected. Bangladesh camp initially expected that Shakib could miss their next game against India in Pune. Shakib batted against the pacers and spinners to test himself and his fitness for the next game. Bangladesh camp will be taking a final call after taking advice from medical staff and team physio. The official update from the Bangladesh camp is that he didn’t complain about any pain during his session.
A Bangladesh cricket board official informed, “He was out and training on Tuesday and even indulged in a bit of a football game, but soon left. Shakib then emerged with his pads on alongside opener Litton Das to have a net session. He began by facing underarm throws from Faisal Hossain, who is assisting fielding coach Shane McDermott.” Bangladesh will need Shakib Al Hasan more than anyone against India.
Bangladesh cricket board officials informed that Shakib Al Hasan not complaining about any trouble is great news for them. Bangladesh camp will again have a practice session on Wednesday. Team India had a day break on Monday and then they came back into action to prepare for the Bangladesh game. Bangladesh have two points in three games as they defeated Afghanistan while losing to England and New Zealand respectively.
