Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Shakib Al Hasan won “Man of the match” award in Bangladesh’s last match against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 after suffering an injury in the recent match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on November 6, 2023. Bangladesh won the match to keep their hopes of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 qualification alive.

Shakib Al Hasan was hit on his index finger while batting in the match against Sri Lanka. He continued his innings by taking painkillers as Bangladesh were chasing a target of 280 runs in Delhi.

He made 82 runs in just 65 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes and along with Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 90 runs with 12 fours, took Bangladesh to a 3-wicket win with almost 9 overs to spare. With this win, Bangladesh have moved to 7th spot in the points table with 4 points to their name.

Meanwhile, Shakib suffered the injury while batting and National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan gave further details on the injury. He confirmed that Shakib has a fractured finger, which has ruled him out of Bangladesh’s last match of the tournament against Australia in Pune on 11 November.

“Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab,” Bangladesh team physio was quoted by ICC.

Earlier in the day, Shakib recorded figures of 2/57 with the ball. The fine all-round performance in a tense clash fetched him the Player of the Match award.
