Massive blow for Bangladesh as captain Shakib Al Hasan taken for scans following NZ vs BAN ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match
Shakib Al Hasan made 40 runs and picked one wicket in his 10 overs against New Zealand.
The Bangladesh team will be in massive trouble ahead of their next match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 after captain Shakib Al Hasan was taken for scans after suffering an injury during his team’s match against New Zealand on October 13, 2023.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 group game in Chennai saw New Zealand clash with Bangladesh. New Zealand came into this match, having both of their first two matches in the tournament. Bangladesh, on the other hand, had defeated Afghanistan but lost to England in Dharamshala.
Kane Williamson made his return and opted to field first after winning the toss. Litton Das got out the first ball of the match and Bangladesh struggled to put runs on the board consistently. Mushfiqur Rahim (66), Shakib Al Hasan (40), and Mahmudullah (41*) were the top scorers as Bangladesh posted 245/9 in 50 overs.
For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson took 3/49, while Trent Boult and Matt Henry took two wickets each.
“Shakib Al Hasan going for his scans”- Najmul Hossain Shanto
In reply, Kane Williamson made 78 (retired hurt) and Daryl Mitchell made 89* after Devon Conway had hammered 45 on his IPL home ground in Chennai. New Zealand won the match easily by 8 wickets in the 43rd over.
After the match, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan didn’t come for the post-match chat, and in his place, Najmul Hossain Shanto took up the responsibility.
He said: “He (Shakib) is going for his scans. We will know after that.”
“We didn't start well. We batted poorly even in the last game in the first 10-15 overs. The wicket looks good. Some bounce with the new ball. We have to bat a little responsibly. If we bat a little carefully in the first 10-15, then we can do well. Our pace bowlers did well. I think the biggest improvement has been our fast bowling department. We will have to bat well,” he added.
More information would become available after the scan findings come to light, which is undoubtedly bad news for Bangladeshi fans who would certainly not want their skipper, who has been playing extremely well on his own, to suffer an injury.
