"What a shame": Virender Sehwag reacts after West Indies fail to qualify for Cricket World Cup 2023

Virender Sehwag reacted to West Indies losing against Scotland and getting knocked out of race for the Cricket World Cup 2023.

The ongoing ICC CWC Qualifier 2023 has produced some incredible games of cricket so far. On Saturday, it produced what could be one of the major upsets in World Cup history. The third game of the Super Six saw the two-time champions, West Indies take on Scotland at Harare Sports Club in Harare. It started with Scotland winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

The Scottish bowlers proved that decision right. The strong West Indian batting line-up fell like a pack of cards. They were bowled out for just 181 runs in 43.5 overs. Jason Holder was the top scorer with 45 runs. Brandon McMullen picked up three, and Chris Sole and Chris Greaves took two wickets each. Eventually, it was a complete off-day for the Two-time world champions. After a batting failure, the bowling was also ordinary from the West Indies.

Chasing the target, Scotland lost Christopher McBride off the very first ball, but that was the only hurdle they had. They chased down the target in 43.3 overs and made 185/3 to win the game by seven wickets. Skipper Matthew Cross was unbeaten on 74 runs, while McMullen scored 69 runs. It was the third straight loss for West Indies in this tournament. With this defeat, the two-time champions have been knocked out of the tournament.

It means they will not be part of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. This will be the first time in history that West Indies will not be part of a World Cup event. Reacting to this defeat, former Indian opener Sehwag took to Twitter and wrote, "What a shame. West Indies fail to qualify for the World Cup. Just shows talent alone isn't enough, need focus and good man management, free from politics. The only solace is there isn't further low to sink from here."

Scotland stunned the two-time champions and registered their first win of the Super Six to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. West Indies have two more games left, but even if they win those games, they will not make it to the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. On the other hand, Scotland have a great chance to make it to the final after winning the next two games.
