India suffered their first-ever ODI series defeat against New Zealand on home soil.

Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team in 2024, when he was awarded a contract until the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. During Gambhir’s tenure in 2025, India won the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2025 Asia Cup, and drew the five-match Test series against England.

However, the Indian Cricket Team suffered more setbacks than triumphs under Gambhir’s leadership. For instance, India suffering a whitewash against New Zealand (3-0) in a test series in 2024 came as a big surprise for the entire cricket fraternity.

This was further hampered by South Africa bagging a clean sweep in the two-match test series in India in November 2025. These two events shattered India’s dominance in tests at home.

While India commenced 2026 on a winning note by crushing New Zealand in the first ODI in Vadodara, the happiness did not last long. Losing the next two games in Rajkot and Indore, India faced a humiliating series defeat against the Black Caps.

Despite winning the toss in the series-decider third ODI, the Shubman Gill & Co. struggled against the Black Caps with both bat and ball, losing by 41 runs.

Moreover, New Zealand rubbed salt in the hosts’ wounds by achieving their first-ever ODI series victory in India. This has come as the biggest blow to India at the start of 2026 and is one of the massive streaks broken against New Zealand.

Over the last two years, India’s numerous streaks have been broken under Gautam Gambhir tenure in both ODIs and tests. Below is the complete list.
