Shan Masood remains unbeaten on 156 runs in 235 balls with 13 fours and a six.

Pakistan skipper Shan Masood has made a stellar start to his leadership campaign in Australia. Left-hand batter Shan Masood smashed a century against Australian Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra. Pakistan playing a 4-day practice game against Australian PM invitational XI in Canberra before taking a flight to Perth for the opening test match at Optus Stadium on 14th December. Pakistan’s batting line-up made a decent score and ended the opening day on 324/6.

Shan Masood came in to bat at number 3 and remained unbeaten throughout the first day and ended his first day with a score of 156 runs in 235 balls. Masood played a few glorious shots to pace bowlers and raced towards his hundred quickly. He came in to bat in the 8th over of the innings and went on to add small but useful partnerships for Pakistan along with Abdullah Shafique (38), Babar Azam (40), and Sarfaraz Ahmed (41).

Just a few weeks back Shan Masood was given charge

After Pakistan’s disastrous performance in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, PCB decided to bring a lot of changes to their setup. In a massive overhaul of the team, they appointed Shan Masood as skipper of the test team replacing Babar Azam. Masood started nicely in his first innings as captain and Pakistani fans will be expecting positive results from Shan Masood as skipper as well as top-order batter.

It was a hot day in Canberra and the pitch was also very slow. Medium-pace bowler Jordan Buckingham troubled Pakistan batters a lot throughout the day. Buckingham dismissed Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed caught behind the wicket by wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson. Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed’s wickets were identical as they both tried to glance the ball but failed to get it past Jimmy Peirson.

Pakistan will be getting a different and much more difficult and quicker wicket to bat on in the first test match against Australia on 14th December. Pakistan will be playing a 3-match test series against the hosts and look for their first series win in Australia. Pakistan have not won a single test down under after the 1976-77 tour. Shan Masood will have a big challenge ahead of him as the game goes on and they approach the first test in Perth.
