Shardul Thakur backs Yuzvendra Chahal for World Cup, says "he will not be demoralised to not play against WI"

Yuzvendra Chahal has not played any game for Team India after January 2023 against New Zealand.

India kept their unbeaten record against West Indies going as they won the 3-match ODI series by 2-1. They won the final game by a huge margin of 200 runs. Indian fans got a shock from the West Indies when they defeated team India in the second ODI by 6 wickets. In the 3-match ODI series, almost every player got the game time except Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Head Coach Rahul Dravid also faced severe criticism over his experimental approach in the series. This also came as a surprise that Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t get any game time before the upcoming big events. 

Everyone played against WI, except Chahal

Indian all-rounder and one of the heroes of India’s win against West Indies Shardul Thakur has backed Yuzvendra Chahal and his ability as a leg spinner. India played with Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav in all three ODIs and Axar Patel got the opportunity in the second ODI as Number 4 batter and an extra spin bowling option. Everyone was disappointed to not see Chahal in any of the games. Backing Yuzvendra Chahal, Shardul Thakur said that Chahal will not be demoralised by the lack of game time before the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 in the upcoming days. 

Shardul says Chahal will not be demoralised

Yuzvendra Chahal has not played any international game for Team India after January 2023 against New Zealand. Talking about Chahal, Shardul Thakur said, “We have very good bench strength. A lot of times, it may happen that someone might not get to play a series or he might miss a few matches. But, Yuzvendra Chahal is a very good player. He has performed well over the years. He has proved himself. Whether or not to play him is the management’s call. I can’t comment on it a lot”. Shardul Thakur has been India’s leading Wicket taker in the ODI format since the World Cup 2019. 

Backing Chahal, Shardul further added, “The Kind of player he is, whenever he gets to play, he will perform. No doubt about that. He always takes wickets in bunches. He contributes to the team’s success all the time… Whenever he has played he has won matches for team India”. Yuzvendra Chahal has played 72 ODIs for Team India and picked up 121 wickets. Chahal has been a prolific wicket-taker for Team India whenever he played. He along with Kuldeep Yadav have bowled magical spells to win games for India. Fans are expecting this duo to play in the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India.
