Shardul Thakur to lead West Zone in Duleep Trophy 2025, Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal included

Seven Mumbai players are picked in West Zone squad for Duleep Trophy 2025-26.

Indian and Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been appointed as the captain of the West Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025. A total of seven players from Mumbai have been picked in the team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshpande are the other six Mumbai players in West Zone squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the only player to be picked from Maharashtra team.

Saurashtra’s Harvik Desai and Maharashtra’s Saurabh Nawale have been named as the wicket-keepers. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara could not find a place in the West Zone team.

Shardul Thakur (C, Mumbai), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Mumbai), Shreyas Iyer (Mumbai), Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai), Shams Mulani (Mumbai), Sarfaraz Khan (Mumbai), Tanush Kotian (Mumbai), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Maharashtra), Aarya Desai (Gujarat), Jaymeet Patel (Gujarat), Manan Hingrajia (Gujarat), Saurabh Nawale (WK, Gujarat), Arzan Nagwaswala (Gujarat), Harvik Desai (wk, Saurashtra), Dharmandrasinh Jadeja (Saurashtra).

The 15-member squad was picked by selection committee of six people. Sanjay Patil (Mumbai Cricket Association), Prayan Dave (Baroda Cricket Association), Akshay Darekar (Maharashtra Cricket Association), Sandip Maniyar (Saurashtra Cricket Association), and Kirat Damani (Gujarat Cricket Association), and Mumbai Cricket Association secretary Abhay Hadap were part of the selection committee.

The Duleep Trophy 2025 will follow a zonal format this time and witness six teams battling for the title. West Zone, South Zone, North Zone, Central Zone, East Zone, and North East Zone are the six teams in the tournament. It will begin on August 28. The venue for all the games is BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, Bengaluru.

In the last edition, there were four teams- India A, B, C and D. The players were picked by the national selectors. South Zone were the winners in the 2023-24 season, when Duleep Trophy was held in the zonal format.
