Shashank Singh played a crucial knock for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) finished as runners-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 following their defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final. However, the Shreyas Iyer-led side earned a lot of appreciation for their marvellous performance in the tournament.
Interestingly, PBKS failed to reach the playoffs for the last 10 seasons. However, they broke their playoffs jinx under the new skipper, Shreyas Iyer, in the 2025 edition. Even in the final against RCB, they showed stunning efforts to chase down a 191-run target. However, they fell short by just six runs in the end.
PBKS middle-order batter Shashank Singh played a crucial role in the losing cause in the final. He scored an unbeaten 61 runs off 30 deliveries in the encounter and kept the winning hopes alive till the end. He slammed six sixes during his innings.

Interestingly, the PBKS batter had predicted ahead of IPL 2025 that his team would finish in the top two. Now, he has made another bold prediction for the IPL 2026. The 33-year-old said that PBKS will reach the final next season too and will also lift the trophy.
“Next year we are playing the final in Bangalore for sure and we will lift the Trophy too,” he told Indian Express.
Notably, PBKS needed 29 runs for victory in the final over of the IPL 2025 final. Singh slammed three sixes and one boundary in the final over of Josh Hazlewood to score 22 runs. However, he missed the first two balls, otherwise, one more six could have turned the game in PBKS’ favour.
Speaking about that moment, he said he regrets not hitting the six on Hazlewood’s first delivery, which was a full toss.
“Mentally, my mind was ready to get a first ball yorker from Hazelwood. So I had positioned myself but I never anticipated a full toss one, that too on my thigh pad. Now I feel, if I would have connected it, even if I got it on the handle of the bat, I would have got maximum, because the fine-leg was near”, he said.
I was hoping for a wide from him but it never came. When I saw the scoreboard stating the last ball needed 12 runs, I knew it’s all over,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Singh scored 350 runs in 14 innings in the tournament that included seven unbeaten innings. He held a high strike rate of 153.50 while batting and also hammered three half-centuries in the tournament.
