Shikhar Dhawan was not included in the West Indies tour as well as in the Asian Games squad.

Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan’s career looks almost over as team India didn’t include him in the recently concluded West Indies ODI series and also in the team for the upcoming Asian Games event. Earlier Shikhar Dhawan was in contention of leading the squad for the Asian Games event, but the selectors gave Ruturaj Gaikwad the responsibility of leading the Indian team to bring home the glory from China. Shikhar Dhawan also didn’t get the opportunity for the West Indies ODI series which marked almost the end of his career for India.

Shikhar Dhawan ‘bit disappointed’

Shikhar Dhawan has reacted to his exclusion from the Indian squad and said that he was a bit shocked after the BCCI announced the team for Asian Games 2023. Shikhar Dhawan expressed, “When my name was not there for the Asian Games, I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it. Happy that Rutu will lead the side. All the young boys are there, I am sure they will do well.” Dhawan hasn’t played any international game for team India since December 2022.

While talking about the comeback to news agency PTI, Dhawan said, “I will be ready, of course for the comeback. That is why I keep myself fit whenever there’s a chance I am ready. There is always a chance whether it is one percent or 20 percent. I still enjoy training and I still enjoy the game, these are the things in my control. Whatever decisions are made I respect that.”

Dhawan failed miserably against Bangladesh in his last three ODIs and couldn’t touch the double-figure mark in 3 match ODI series.

Dhawan still has a lot to play for in Indian domestic cricket even if he doesn’t get any chance in International cricket. Talking about the future, Dhawan said, “I have not spoken to any selector about my future, I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there, the facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career and I am grateful for it. Also, I have to prepare for the IPL. I will be playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and, hopefully, the Vijay Hazare as well.” Dhawan is the captain of the Punjab Kings in the IPL.
