Shikhar Dhawan's India career is almost over, feels Aakash Chopra

Shikhar Dhawan last played an ODI for India in December 2022 against Bangladesh.
Shikhar Dhawan was once India's most preferred opening batter in the ODI format. Recently selectors have moved ahead from Shikhar Dhawan and looked to try on the future generation. Shikhar last played an ODI for team India in December 2022 in Bangladesh. Since then he is continuously ignored from the ODI squad.
His exclusion from the upcoming West Indies ODI series and Asian games team gave final thoughts on the 37-year-old left-hand opening batter. Former India opener Aakash Chopra also thinks that even if India looks for a Left-Right combination in the opening, Shikhar Dhawan is unlikely to get a place in World Cup.
Aakash Chopra's take on Shikhar Dhawan
On his Youtube channel Aakash Chopra said, "It keeps going in your heart and it's a valid discussion point, can there be a left and right-handed combination so that the batting becomes slightly easier and a little pressure is put on the opposition team? When you go thinking, can Shikhar Dhawan's name come on this list? Shikhi boy's name should have been on this list but it seems like it won't be there because his name is not there for the West Indies tour as well. You didn't put his name for the Asian Games too. So it seems like the team has turned their back on him". Shikhar Dhawan has scored three centuries in the World Cup matches for India.
India will look forward to multiple options in the opening during the upcoming World Cup. Along with captain Rohit Sharma, young Yashasvi Jaiswal can be put in the team to have a balanced left and right combination. Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson are the other options selectors might think of as openers in the World Cup. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been given an opportunity in upcoming India's ODI tussle against West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan has played 167 ODIs for India and smashed 17 centuries. Dhawan scored 6793 runs at an average of 44.11 in 164 innings.
