"We scored 100 centuries in 5 years" Shikhar Dhawan remembers the journey with Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan retired from international cricket with 24 centuries.

As Shikhar Dhawan concludes his international career, the left-handed opener recollected memories of his time with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team. Hailed as the golden trio of the Indian team of this generation, the three batters ruled ODI cricket for a significant period together.

Dhawan, aged 38, announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on August 22, 2024.

Hailed as “Mr. ICC” by the fans, Dhawan bowed out with 6793 at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 91 with 17 centuries. He was the leading run-scorer in India’s triumphant 2013 Champions Trophy. He was also India’s highest scorer in the Asia Cup 2014, World Cup 2015, Champions Trophy 2017 and Asia Cup 2018.

From 2013 to 2019, Dhawan, Rohit, and Kohli formed one of the most formidable top three in ODI history.

Overall, in international cricket, the trio recorded 104 centuries together across formats in this period. From June 2013 to July 2019, Kohli hit 49 centuries, Rohit scored 32 centuries, and Dhawan notched up 23 tons.

Speaking with Hindustan Times, Dhawan said, “We were part of a beautiful journey together. I clearly remember that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and I scored 100 centuries in 5 years. Ravi (Shastri) bhai was our coach then. Even NCA has played such a huge role, understood how training and rehab is done whenever I got injured. And a big thank you to the BCCI as well.

Further, Dhawan scored 2315 test runs and 1759 runs in T20Is. In the Indian Premier League, he has amassed 6769 runs and is the second-highest scorer after Kohli.
