Asia Cup 2025: "Tweaked my run-up..."- Shivam Dube reveals coach Morne Morkel’s advice after his three wickets against UAE

Shivam Dube picked up three wickets in India’s nine-wicket win over the UAE in the Asia Cup 2025.

India all-rounder Shivam Dube revealed the guidance he received from bowling coach Morne Morkel after his heroics with the ball in the Men in Blue’s big win over the UAE in their first match of the Asia Cup 2025.

The match was played in Dubai on September 10, and India opted to bowl first after Suryakumar Yadav won the toss. UAE had a good start, reaching 47/2, with Alishan Sharafu making 22 and Muhammad Waseem making 19. However, the UAE lost their last eight wickets for just ten runs and were bowled out for 57.

Kuldeep Yadav starred with 4/7 in 2.3 overs, but the surprise of the lot was Shivam Dube. The big all-rounder, known for his huge sixes, bowled useful medium pacers, taking three wickets for four runs in his two overs.

Although he is not as quick as Hardik Pandya, he does have a few tricks up his sleeve with his bowling, and the UAE was not ready for Dube, who came out of the syllabus for them. Speaking to the media after the match, Dube revealed that he had worked on his bowling after getting advice and guidance from India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel.

“Morne has been working with me since I came back into the Indian team for the England series. He has given me certain specific advice, and I worked on it. He told me to bowl a line that is slightly outside the off-stump. He also worked with me in developing a slower delivery and tweaked my run-up a bit. The head coach and the skipper had told me that my bowling would have a role to play,” Dube said in the post-match press conference.

Needing 58 runs to win the game, Abhishek Sharma started the chase with a six off the first delivery of the first over. He hammered 30 runs in 16 balls before getting dismissed. Shubman Gill then took over and hammered 20* in 9 balls as India won the game by nine wickets in just 4.3 overs.
