Asia Cup 2023: Massive boost for India as Shreyas Iyer starts training in nets

Shreyas Iyer missed both Super Four games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 due to a back spasm.
Team India have reached the finals of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after winning the first two games of the super four stage. They beat Pakistan by a huge margin of 228 runs and followed it up with a clinical 41-runs win over Sri Lanka. Notably, Shreyas Iyer didn't feature in any of those games, as he was not fit for the selection and felt back spasms ahead of the game against Pakistan.
Team India are scheduled to play a dead rubber game on Friday against Bangladesh at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India have qualified, while Bangladesh has been eliminated. But ahead of that clash, India have a good news as Shreyas Iyer joined the team and is fit for selection on Friday.
Shreyas Iyer rejoins the team ahead of the Bangladesh clash on Friday
Shreyas Iyer played both group matches for India, against Pakistan and Nepal, but was ruled out due to a back issue. But as per the media report, the star batter joined the team for the practice session ahead of the game on Friday. Notably, it was KL Rahul who replaced Iyer against Pakistan with a last-minute decision. But he made that count and smashed his sixth ODI ton.
Later in the game against Sri Lanka, Rahul played an important knock of 39 runs. Meanwhile, Iyer had a light batting session during the practice, which is pretty good news for team India because he is a big player in the middle-order who can bat against spin and pace pretty well. He can prove to be a game changer for India in Asia Cup and the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023.
Though India have qualified for the finals, they will not take Bangladesh lightly in the coming game. But the management can opt for a few changes in the playing XI and try out the players who are sitting on the bench. And if it all goes well, we might see Shreyas Iyer back in the squad.
