Shreyas Iyer scored 7 and 95 in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final against Vidarbha.

Mumbai middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was spotted dancing after his team hammered Vidarbha in the Ranji Tophy 2023-24 final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai won the match by 169 runs to clinch their 42nd elite domestic title.

In fact, the star batter played a crucial role in Mumbai posting 418 in the second innings. Iyer smashed 95 runs off 111 balls and added a 158-run stand, with youngster Musheer Khan helping Mumbai to set a 527-run target for Vidarbha.

Chasing 527 runs, Vidarbha were looking in great control as they went to lunch on Day 5 with only wickets five down as batters Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey were at the crease. After lunch break, the visitors saw a collapse as they lost their last five wickets in quick succession as they went on to lose by 169 runs.

Shreyas Iyer might miss initial games of the IPL 2024

According to a report in the Times of India, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer might miss the initial games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Iyer underwent back surgery in 2023 before returning to the Asia Cup and then playing a big role in India’s road to the final at the ODI World Cup 2023, where the 29-year-old amassed 530 runs in 11 matches.

But according to the latest development, Iyer, who had earlier complained of a back issue to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) during the five-match series against England, has once again putting him in trouble, and this might rule him out of a few games in the upcoming 17th edition of the IPL.

However, in the Ranji Trophy final game against Vidarbha, Shreyas had to pause twice in the second inning to seek some treatment for back spasms. “It is not looking good. It is the same back injury which has got aggravated. It is unlikely he will take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL,” a source told Times Of India in the report.
