Shreyas Iyer dedicates Indore ton against Australia to someone special

Shreyas Iyer scored his third ODI hundred in Indore.

India batter Shreyas Iyer made a triumphant return to the team as he scored an amazing century in the second ODI against Australia, which was played in Indore on September 24, 2023. India won the match and went up 2-0 in the three-match series.

Steve Smith, captaining Australia in place of Pat Cummins, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer hammered attacking centuries and added 200 runs for the second wicket. Shubman Gill scored 104 runs, while Shreyas Iyer scored 105 runs.

For Shreyas Iyer, it was a watershed moment. He had made his India return in Asia Cup 2023 after a long layoff due to a back injury. However, his return was short-lived, as after the group matches, Iyer sustained a back spasm and missed the super 4 stage and finals.

But Indian team management decided to rest a bunch of first-choice players for the first two ODIs against Australia. Iyer was run out in the first match in Mohali and knew he had to score in Indore to remain in contention for the playing XI.

In Indore, he recovered, seized the chance with both hands, and immediately humiliated Australian bowlers. Indian management, which was looking for answers for the number 4 post, was greatly relieved by Iyer's century.

Shreyas Iyer, fresh from his century, took to Twitter to extend heartfelt thanks to his fans and everyone who stood by him.

India now confronts an enjoyable selection conundrum for the middle-order in the next ICC World Cup 2023, with Shreyas Iyer back in peak form, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul continuously scoring runs, and Suryakumar Yadav demonstrating excellent form.
