Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer gifts team India jersey to Formula One racer Max Verstappen

Shreyas Iyer played a magnificent role for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign.

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has recently met the world Formula One champion Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates. Iyer has gifted him his Indian jersey. Shreyas Iyer wore a different number jersey 96 in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Max Verstappen has recently won his third title with the Red Bull. Verstappen has been on a winning run and became a fan favourite in no time. 

Shreyas Iyer shared a picture of himself gifting the jersey to a Red Bull racer on Instagram. Shreyas Iyer posted a story on his Instagram with Max Verstappen holding Iyer’s jersey. The Red Bull social media team also posted the picture on their social media account. Shreyas Iyer donned the Red Bull cap to support the team. Iyer also visited the team’s paddock after the race and met with Red Bull members. 

Shreyas Iyer retained by KKR

Shreyas Iyer is retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and will be leading the side in the upcoming IPL 2024. Shreyas Iyer had to miss the previous season of the league due to a back injury. Nitish Rana led the side in his absence but for the upcoming seasons, Iyer will be back at the helm of affairs as leader. KKR bought Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 mega auction for 12.25 crore rupees.

Right-hand batter recently had a great World Cup campaign with Indian side. He smashed two centuries in the tournament. He played a pivotal role in India’s semi-final win against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Iyer scored 105 runs in 70 deliveries against Kiwis and smashed 8 sixes in his innings. Iyer also played a magnificent role against Netherlands at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

Shreyas Iyer will be taking part in the final two T20I games of the ongoing 5-match T20I series against Australia. He has been given rest for the first three games. Team India took a 2-0 lead against Australia after winning the first two T20I games in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will host the third and final T20I game between the two sides on Tuesday 28th November.
