Shreyas Iyer scored 25 off 23 deliveries during India's chase of 273 runs against Afghanistan in Delhi.

India batter Shreyas Iyer sent the ball into orbit with a 101m hit during the recent India vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2023 match in Delhi on October 11, 2023. India defeated Afghanistan by 8 wickets and 15 overs to spare.

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and chose to bat first in a flat Delhi wicket. But the Indian bowlers always kept a lid on the scoring rate. However, Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai added a century stand together, the first by Afghanistan against India in ODIs.

Shahidi made 80 runs off 88 balls, including one six and eight boundaries. Azmatullah Omarzai made 62 off 69 deliveries, including four sixes and two fours. Afghanistan finished with 272/8 in 50 overs.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, taking 4/39. Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets. Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav also picked up one wicket apiece.

In reply, Rohit Sharma smashed the fastest World Cup century by an Indian in 63 balls, scoring a total of 131 runs with 14 fours and 5 sixes. Ishan Kishan made 47 runs with 5 fours and 2 sixes. But when they got out, Virat Kohli (55*) and Shreyas Iyer (25*) took the team home with 8 wickets and 15 overs to spare.

During his knock, Shreyas Iyer looked like a different batter from the one against Australia, who got out for a duck. Iyer looked quite composed when he came out to bat following Rohit's dismissal, milking singles and doubles.

But as the right-handed batter got one right in the arc, he sent one ball past the long-on boundary. The shot came on the first ball of the 32nd over bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman as Shreyas Iyer lofted the ball high in the air and it kept traveling beyond the boundary.
