Shreyas Iyer led KKR to their third IPL title in 2024.

The last few months have been fantastic for Shreyas Iyer. The Indian middle-order batsman has been in impressive form in ODIs and played a key role in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, emerging as the team’s leading run-scorer in the campaign.

However, the 30-year-old faced a tough time after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as he was dropped from the BCCI’s central contract list.

Iyer then turned to domestic cricket, amassing big runs for Mumbai to lead the team to multiple domestic titles. He also guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the team’s third IPL title in 2024, ending an 11-year trophy drought.

Speaking to Times of India, Iyer has now revealed that he felt he did not receive the recognition he deserved after IPL 2024.

Reflecting on the past year, Iyer said he was not frustrated as he was playing in the IPL and had set his sights on winning the title. However, he felt he did not receive the recognition he deserved after leading the franchise to the trophy.

Iyer said, “Frustration toh nahi tha (I was not frustated) because I was playing IPL. The major focus was to win the IPL, and thankfully, I won it.

I personally felt I didn’t get the recognition I wanted to after winning the IPL but at the end of the day, as long as you have self integrity and you keep doing the right things when no one is watching, that is more important and that is what I kept doing.

In addition to his captaincy, Iyer had a fantastic IPL 2024 with the bat. He led from the front, scoring 351 runs in 14 games at an impressive strike rate of 147. His team defeated one of the tournament’s strongest sides, Sunrisers Hyderabad, in both Qualifier 1 and the final to lift the trophy.
