Shreyas Iyer was overlooked by selectors in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has finally broken the silence on his Asia Cup 2025 snub. He admitted that it was frustrating for him not to be part of the team. But he was quick to mention that his main aim is to see the team win.

After having a magical outing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he scored 604 runs in 17 games at a wonderful batting average of 50.33 and a stunning strike rate of 175.07, Shreyas Iyer was overlooked by selectors in the India squad for the tournament. His snub became a talk of the town, with some former cricketers and many lashing out the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his omission.

Slamming six fifties in IPL 2025, Iyer also led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the final, where they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Speaking on his snub for Asia Cup 2025, India chief selector Ajit Agarkar was honest to admit that they could only pick 15 players and didn’t have a place for him in the current setup.

During a podcast on IQOO India’s YouTube channel, Iyer shared his reaction to Asia Cup 2025 snub. Iyer said that it is frustrating to miss out when one deserves to be part of the team. However, one also has to support other players who are performing for the team and giving their best.

“It is only frustrating when you know that you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. At that time, it is frustrating. But at the same time, when you know that someone is performing and playing consistently for the team and bringing their best, you support them. And eventually, the goal is for the team to win. When the team is winning, everyone is happy,” he said.

“But as I keep talking about integrity, even if you don’t get a chance, you have to make sure that you do your work ethically. It’s not like you do it only when someone is watching. Even when no one is watching, you have to keep doing your work,” he added.

Meanwhile, India are part of Group A in Asia Cup 2025, with Pakistan, Oman, and UAE in their pool. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in the tournament, while Shubman Gill has been named as his deputy.

The tournament will commence on September 9 in the UAE, and the Men in Blue will play their opening game against the UAE on September 10.

Notably, Iyer has been named as the captain of India A for the upcoming unofficial test series against Australia A. Both sides will lock horns in two matches starting September 16.
