Shreyas Iyer remains in Australia as he continues his recovery from injury and medical procedure.
Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer shared a photo of himself and provided an update on his health as he continues to recover from a near-fatal injury in Australia.
In the Sydney ODI against Australia, Shreyas suffered a severe injury while making a running diving catch off Harshit Rana’s bowling to remove Australia’s wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey. He had to be removed from the field for more scans since he was clearly uncomfortable.
After being admitted to the hospital, it was discovered that he had suffered a “blunt injury to his abdomen” during fielding, which led to an internal bleeding due to spleen laceration. He was treated with an emergency surgery.
Iyer was released from a Sydney hospital, according to a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 1. Australian and Indian experts expressed satisfaction with his recuperation. Team physician Rizwan Khan was sent by the Indian team to accompany Iyer to the Sydney hospital.

In a comprehensive medical report about Shreyas’ condition, the BCCI stated that the joint efforts of Indian expert Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and Sydney-based Dr. Kouroush Haghigi’s team were closely monitoring his status.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India, also gave an update prior to the first T20I against Australia in Canberra, stating that he had been communicating with Iyer on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, Shreyas, who is expected to be sidelined for some time due to the injury, provided an update on Monday evening when he went to a beach for some “therapy.” In the photo, Shreyas is wearing a blue bucket hat and reflector sunglasses.
“Sun’s been a great therapy. Grateful to be back. Thanks for all the love and care,” Shreyas wrote.

Shreyas is expected to be out of action for at least three months. The batsman, who was India’s vice-captain in the ODI series against Australia, will miss the team’s forthcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, which begins November 30 in Ranchi.
