Shreyas Iyer slammed 604 runs in the IPL 2025.

Indian Cricket Team are gearing up for Asia Cup 2025, which will be their next campaign in international cricket. The tournament will commence on September 9 in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and will witness a battle for the title among eight teams.

Unlike the previous edition, Asia Cup 2025 will be played in T20 format. Indian selectors, as per the reports, will conduct a meeting on August 19 in Mumbai to pick the squad for the tournament. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav is the current T20I skipper of India and will lead the side during Asia Cup 2025.

A lot of discussions are going on regarding the India squad for Asia Cup 2025. Some strong contenders who are almost confirmed to be part of the India squad are Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Sanju Samson.

According to reports by Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, and Washington Sundar are in contention to be picked as the 15th member in the squad. One of these four players will make it to India’s squad for Asia Cup 2025.

Notably, Iyer last played a T20I match for India in December 2023. However, he has made a strong stance for himself after his brilliant show in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-handed batsman led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the final of the tournament after 10 years.

With 604 runs in 17 games at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07, he finished as the sixth highest run-scorer in the league. Rinku has donned the role of finisher in the T20I side for the last two years.

Riyan Parag, who led Rajasthan Royals (RR) in many games due to Sanju Samson’s injury, could not come up with a consistent batting show in the tournament. However, his consecutive sixes in a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) attracted a lot of eyeballs.

Washington Sundar, with his dual ability to bowl and score runs, adds depth to the batting and bowling departments. He recently impressed with his performance in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, India are part of Group A in Asia Cup 2025, with Pakistan, UAE, and Oman in their pool. The Men in Blue will play their first match on September 10 against UAE. India are the defending champions of the tournament as they defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the previous edition in 2023.
