Smacking 269 runs off 387 deliveries, Shubman Gill powered India to a gigantic total of 587/10 in the first innings. The right-handed batsman slammed England bowlers all over the park, smacking 30 fours and three sixes during his knock.

Shubman Gill reveals his father’s hilarious reaction after double century
In a video posted by the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) on Instagram, Gill shared that his father congratulated him with a heart-warming message after the double century. In the video, Gill also revealed that his father mentioned that he missed his triple century in the match.
“Well played, I enjoyed watching your batting, and my heart was at peace. You were batting like in your U-16 and U-19 days — I felt very proud,” his father told him. “It means a lot coming from him. But he also told me I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we’ll end this match on a great note,” Gill further said.
“This message means a lot to me. I think, growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad, in the sense that it was because of him that I started playing. And the only person besides him is my best friend, whom I practised with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to,” he added.

Meanwhile, England have made a brilliant comeback in the first innings of Edgbaston test. After losing five wickets for 84 runs on the scoreboard, Jamie Smith and Harry Brook hammered centuries to help England cross 300 runs on the scoreboard. For India, Akash Deep picked up two wickets while Mohammed Siraj took three wickets at the start.
