Indian captain Shubman Gill achieved a brilliant record on day five of the ongoing fourth test between England and India at Old Trafford, Manchester. The right-hander crossed 700 runs across four games in the ongoing series and became only the third batter from his nation to reach the milestone in a bilateral test series
Previously, the record was achieved by former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Gavaskar mustered 700+ runs in a bilateral test series on two occasions- during the series against West Indies in 1971 and 1978/79. Jaiswal achieved the feat during the home test series against England in 2024.

Gill is the leading run-scorer for India in the ongoing test series against England. He slammed a century in the first test at Headingley. After that, he hit twin centuries in the second test at Edgbaston.
In the ongoing Manchester test, the right-handed batsman got out cheaply in the first innings for 12 runs. However, he scored a half-century in the second innings and is en route to another century in the series.
Meanwhile, Gill and KL Rahul (90) led India’s fightback in the Manchester test with their 188-run stand for the third wicket in the second innings. India were bowled out for 358/10 in the first innings, and in response, England piled up 669/10 to earn a lead of 311 runs. The hosts need to evade getting bowled out on day five to end the match in a draw.
