ENG vs IND: Shubman Gill joins Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar in elite list, becomes only third captain in history to achieve this massive feat

Shubman Gill scored a century in second innings of the Manchester test.

England and India are facing each other in fourth test of the five-match series at Old Trafford, Manchester. Indian skipper Shubman Gill slammed a century in the second innings. Notably, it was Gill’s fourth century in the ongoing series.

With his fourth ton in the series, Gill has joined Sunil Gavaskar and Don Bradman in an elite record. Gill has become the third captain to score four centuries in a bilateral test series. Former Indian skipper Gavaskar achieved this record during a test series against the West Indies in 1978/79.

Former Australian captain Bradman slammed four centuries in a test series against India in 1947/48. Gill also became the third Indian player to amass over 700 runs in a bilateral test series, joining Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Shubman Gill leads India’s fightback on day 5 of the Manchester test

Notably, Gill’s century arrived at a crucial moment in the Manchester test as India were looking to get bowled out on day five to not suffer an innings defeat. After India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the second innings, Gill (103) and KL Rahul (90) led India’s fightback with their brilliant knocks.

At lunch on day five, India reached 223/4 with Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja on strike. They trail by 88 runs. Earlier, India were bowled out for 358 runs in the first innings. England posted 669/10 to gain a massive lead of 311 runs.
