ENG vs IND: Shubman Gill breaks Rohit Sharma's record with his epic 269-run knock at Edgbaston

Shubman Gill’s 269 runs helped India post 587 runs in the first innings of the Edgbaston test.
As the Indian Cricket Team made 587 runs in their first innings against the England Cricket Team on Thursday, July 2, at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, Shubman Gill continued the incredible start to his captaincy stint with the bat by striking a double century in the second test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.At Leeds, where he scored 147 runs, Shubman Gill made his test cricket captaincy debut for Team India. Gill went above and beyond in his second test match as India’s captain, not only reaching his career-highest score in the longest format, but also recording his first double century.
Shubman Gill hammered 30 fours and three sixes in his knock. He added 203 runs for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and 144 runs for the seventh wicket with Washington Sundar (42).

After Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian captain is just the fifth player in history to accomplish the elusive double of a double ton in both test and ODI cricket.
Gill is the only player to reach the significant milestone before turning thirty and the youngest to do so in both formats.

In addition to being the first Indian captain to score a double century SENA countries, Shubman Gill is the youngest Indian to score a double ton in England. While leading India, only Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi accomplished the feat at a younger age than he did.
